Fort Myers

is a gateway to the southwest Florida region and a major tourist destination within Florida.

The Fort Myers community was founded by Captain Manuel A. Gonzalez on February 21, 1866. On August 12, 1885, the small town of Fort Myers had 349 residents, while today the population is 74,013. Located approximately 15 miles/ 24 kilometers to the south of the city itself, Fort Myers Beach is where much interest resides for the holiday makers. The beach is roughly 7 miles/ 11 kilometers long. Lovers Key State Park is nearby and offers the chance to hike, kayak, and explore. Fort Myers has plenty to offer to both visitors and locals in regards to tourist attractions. The city is full of character, and although relatively small in American terms, contains a wealth of sights, parklands, museums, estates, and more.

Southwest Florida International Airport is located in Fort Myers and regularly serves more than 20 major airlines, with almost 300 daily flights. Also, as it is currently being expanded, it will increase its capacity as it is the main airport of Southwest Florida.
